All powerful

All powerful

Did you know that God possesses all power (omnipotent)?

It is true. God is all-powerful.

But you know what? Sometimes. No, scratch that…many times when doubts flood my mind, prayers go unanswered, injustices seemingly unnoticed and unpunished, the world around me unraveling…I wonder why the God who is all powerful isn’t moving in power to help, fix things…make all right in the world. It can “feel like” He’s withholding His power and as such is withholding His goodness.

Last night, as the stars captured my attention, my mind was reminded that God is indeed all-powerful. Standing there looking up, I could see God’s power with my very own eyes and my mind was reminded that no matter how I “feel” … God is indeed all-powerful. Seriously Y’all by the power of His might, all those stars…billions and billions of them are hanging up there in the middle of nothing. Let’s not even mention the moon and sun and all the other giant planets…just hanging there. By the power of His might, all are exactly where they should be and remain so. Who can make that so but God? Oh, yeah, and let’s not forget we too are on a giant ball that floats in the middle of space. His power and might literally holds our world and the universe together.

It’s in these moments I realize and acknowledge that I can’t get my mind around God…He’s incomprehensible and He is Transcendent…not at all like me for He is higher in being and action…beyond anything I can comprehend. He’s always at work even though I can’t see it or understand it and all of His attributes are at work all of the time and at the same time.

It’s in these moments my mind just rests its case and I give up the doubts and feelings and “why God” questions and step out in faith trusting that He is not only at work and that nothing and no one will thwart His plans but He will work it all out together for good.

Okay, I'll keep being honest here...this stepping out in faith doesn’t mean the tough circumstances disappear or things are any less difficult or painful, but it shifts my thoughts of “Why God?” to “What are You up to God?” I now wonder…all powerful, all knowing, transcendent, incomprehensible, faithful, good God, what are You up to?

Lord, heighten our spiritual senses today in all things/activities/goings/comings and help us see Your Almighty hand at work all around us. In Jesus Name, Amen.
